Wire Gauge Explained
We recommend using 18 Gauge wire in the installation of these electric dog fence devices

Use 20 Gauge if:

  • For loose, sandy soil
  • The yard has little vegetation
  • The wire will be buried in low traffic areas

Use 18 Gauge if:

  • For rocky soil
  • The yard has a lot of vegetation in it
  • The wire will be buried in high traffic areas
  • Owners will be installing the wire above ground
